In the latest issue of America's Times Magazine, Zhang Yimou's Hero and House of Flying Daggers were ranked together as number one in last year's Top 10 Best Movies. According to Times Magazine's film critics Richard Corliss express that Zhang changes his godness from Gong Li to Zhang Ziyi, from his political theme movies 10 years ago to the recent change to 'wu xia' movie. When talked about Hero, Corliss pointed out that when the fate of Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung is revealed, it can be considered as the most startling, poignant farewells in film history. He also exclaimed that there're not only action scenes in both movies but the most attractive is the enticing battles of the heart, no matter the characters' glance, a smile, a tear can cut deeper than any saber. It can be seem that this critic had fall in love with Zhang's directing skills.

Meanwhile, Corliss also selected Infernal Affairs at number 6, he's not so touched for his remarks on this movie when compared to Hero and HOFD, he feel that the movie is simple, but still manage to bring many content and even suggested people not to wait for remade by Martin Scorsese with Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, as the Hong Kong's original is out on DVD and can see it with someone you think is a friend!
