The nomination list for Mainland China's 5th Chinese Movies Media Award was announced yesterday as Andy Lau's A World Without Thieves garned a total of 7 nominations. Andy will be vying the Best Actor award with Tony Leung and Liu Hua, when told of the news through telephone, Andy was delighted.
5th Chinese Movies Media Award organised by Mainland China's Nanfang Daily will be held in Guangzhou on 20 March, the organiser is currently inviting Andy, Stephen Chow and Chow Yun Fatt to attend. In the announced nomination list, several movies from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan were nominated, a 9-members judging committee will then pick the winners.
AWWT, directed by Feng Xiaogang and starring Andy and Rene Liu garned many nominations which includes Media-picked award, Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best New Performer, a total of 7 nominatons. Although Andy missed out on the Best Actor nomination in Hong Kong Films Awards but at least he finally can vye for the Best Actor award for his role in AWWT.
Other than Best Actor, Andy is also nominated for Media Respected Film Person award, he'll be vying it with Feng Xiaogang, Chen Chuan, Zhang Weiping and Stephen Chow. When told of the nominations, a delighted Andy says: "As a Hong Kong actor, feel specially delighted to be nominated for Best Actor in Mainland China."
However, it won't be easy for Andy to become Best Actor in Mainland China as his competitors are Liu Hua of Years Without Epidemic, Tony Leung of 2046, Dou Bu Jie of Ke Ke Xi Li and Alex Fong of One Night in Mongkok. Meanwhile Rene will compete against Shu Qi, Zhang Ziyi, Cecilia Cheung, Sylvia Chang and Zhou Xun which will be tougher than Andy.
