When being interviewed by reporters the Chinese Movie 100th Anniversary Image Ambassador, Andy Lau revealed that he'll be investing millions to support new directors to shoot High Definition (HD) movies.
It was understand that Andy will selected several new directors from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South-east Asia, the selection criteria will be based on whether their creation is interesting, "Movies requires new blood, I gave them a chance, I won't limit on their theme, they can chose to shoot artistic or commercial movies."
With regards to his reason of selecting HD movies to invest, Andy express that he was trying to help the digitise of movies, "With the improvement of technology, chinese movies need to be developed, of course it includes the continous addition of techonlogy into movies." Procedures when screening HD movies in cineams is simpler, it also solve the problems and headaches of high cost when using vinyl films, therefore directors can concentrate more in the story of the movie.
The movie will start shooting in the second half of the year, currently it's still in the planning stage, with regards to the genre, story and director of the movie, nothing is confirm yet.
In 1990, Andy start his own production company to invest in independent film-makers, those benefited include Fruit Chan and some other film-makers in Mainland China which won good reviews.
